Opportunities & Consulting

Security Expertise for the Caribbean and Beyond

I welcome conversations about academic appointments, research fellowships, policy and programme leadership roles, advisory engagements, and commissioned consultancies.

My work connects empirical security research with practical policy needs. Drawing on professional and academic experience across the Caribbean, Europe, and East Asia, I help institutions understand complex security challenges, strengthen research and policy capacity, and communicate evidence to specialist and public audiences.

My principal areas of expertise include:
  • Caribbean and small-state security;
  • regional security cooperation and defence diplomacy;
  • organized crime, firearms and human trafficking;
  • terrorism, radicalization, returnees, and reintegration;
  • migration, public safety, and security governance;
  • private security and police-private sector collaboration;
  • geopolitical competition and extra-regional influence in the Caribbean; and
  • strategic studies, military affairs, and scenario-based learning.

 How I Can Contribute:

Academic Appointments and Research Leadership

I am interested in permanent, visiting, and fellowship opportunities that combine research, postgraduate teaching, supervision, institutional development, and public engagement. Relevant fields include international security, international relations, strategic studies, Caribbean and Latin American studies, small-state security, and security governance.

I bring experience designing and delivering postgraduate programmes and courses in international security, strategic studies, and sustainable development and justice. I have coordinated and design new postgraduate programmes, supervised research across security and international relations topics, contributed to academic quality assurance, and supported programme development and recruitment.

Policy Research and Advisory Work

I undertake empirically grounded research for governments, regional institutions, think tanks, universities, civil-society organizations, and development partners. Engagements may include, but not limited to:
  • strategic threat and security-environment assessments;
  • policy research, evidence reviews, and analytical briefs;
  • stakeholder interviews, focus groups, and qualitative analysis;
  • programme and institutional assessments;
  • regional cooperation and defence-diplomacy analysis;
  • workshop design and professional capacity building; and
  • executive briefings for policy and operational audiences.

Programme and Institutional Development

I support institutions by developing programmes, professional courses, policy initiatives, and research portfolios. My experience includes asychronious and blended curriculum and programme design, coordination of multidisciplinary teams, academic governance, programme marketing, stakeholder consultation, blended and online delivery, and partnership development.

Formats can include executive seminars, multi-session capacity-building programmes, facilitated policy dialogues, war-gaming or scenario exercises, conference panels, and tailored institutional workshops.

Public Commentary and Convening

I am available for expert interviews, podcasts, keynote addresses, panel discussions, moderation, and collaborative public events. My public-facing work translates security and foreign-policy developments into clear analysis while retaining regional context.

I also work with partners to develop symposia, webinars, roundtables, and other knowledge-exchange activities that bring researchers, policymakers, practitioners, civil society, and private-sector stakeholders into sustained dialogue.

Selected Evidence of Impact

Advancing Small States and Caribbean Security Research

My research is empirically based with rigorous methodology that focuses on broadly defined international security studies. The quality of the academic outputs is demonstrated by publications in Q1 Impact Factor Best Quartile journals like Third World Quarterly, Policing and Society, and Global Crime (list of publications).

Connecting Research and Practice

My current research portfolio addresses military cooperation, radicalization and returnees, police-private security collaboration, prison services, firearms trafficking, migration, and other multidimensional security challenges. In 2025, I led a Crime Prevention and Reduction Symposium connecting university researchers, the private-security industry, and business stakeholders around crime prevention and institutional reform. In 2026, I co-hosted first policy-oriented Caribbean Security Futures Symposium that brought together policy and security stakeholders.

Leading Academic Programmes

At The University of the West Indies, I redesigned and currently coordinate postgraduate programmes in international relations and global studies at The Institute of International Relations and designed programme development in sustainable development and justice at the The International School for Development Justice.
