Michal Pawinski (PI), Michael Adams, and Malisa Neptune-Figaro. Exploring the Radical Islamic Network (RIN) in Trinidad and Tobago: From Radicalization to Reintegration of Foreign Terrorist Fighters.

I am leading a major project that focuses on designing reintegration, rehabilitation, resettlement, re-education, and reunification mechanisms (5Rs) for Trinidad and Tobago nationals as a part of the repatriation process from Syria. The project is multi-layered and involves, but is not limited to, sensitization of mentioned individuals about the 5Rs; organization of public events (e.g., event on February 8th, 2023 – see leaflet on the right) about the repatriation and 5Rs to mitigate distrust and ensure the national security integrity; and conduct in-depth interviews with the research subjects and publish those accounts in the form of peer-reviewed articles. It is a long-term project requiring the 5Rs effectiveness and outcomes assessment.
